Productpilot.com has proved a successful online sourcing business-matching platform from Messe Frankfurt. It was launched in February last year as a platform for visitors and exhibitors to get together.

Exhibitors or visitors with an interest in consumer goods, textiles, lighting, music and stage lighting, building technologies or automotive will have the opportunity to discuss technologies and the latest products.

By the end of last year more than 25,000 companies had put their presentations on productpilot.com. Companies which have exhibited at Messe Frankfurt functions can register on the website and get a company page to show their products and sourcing information.

Messe Frankfurt introduced this value-added product for its exhibitors because the firm found that it fielded many requests after exhibitions for further information about exhibitors' products or requests to contact those companies.

In this way visitors to the website and exhibitors could contact one another, making the exhibition more effective by ensuring that sourcing not only took place at the trade fair, but throughout the year. It also proved an excellent network for business matching where manufacturers and sellers in similar fields could contact each other.

Exhibitors have to pay to register on the website but, unlike other business-to-business portals, where the content and quality of products is often uncontrolled, this site is exclusively for Messe Frankfurt exhibitors - so the quality can be vouched for. Visitors to the portal can look up suppliers by keying in company names or the product in a choice of six languages.
