Heat puts 74 people in hospital

Yesterday's hot weather, which saw temperatures rise above 34 degrees Celsius, resulted in about 800 requests for help from the elderly, with 71 people requiring hospital treatment, the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association said. Three people who fell sick from the heat at Victoria Park, Lamma Island and Tai Tam were also sent to hospital. The Observatory issued the very hot weather warning at 7.45am and kept it in force for more than eight hours. The top temperatures were 34.2 and 34.1 degrees at Chek Lap Kok and Sheung Shui respectively. Mainly fine and hot weather will continue today and tomorrow, apart from isolated showers.
