Switch to energy-saving light bulbs

Have you ever heard this saying: 'Genius is one per cent inspiration and 99 per cent perspiration'?

Thomas Edison, the famous inventor who created light bulbs, said this.

He was an extraordinary person. Although he was almost totally deaf, he never gave up. He

did not think he was handicapped. He just worked hard.

We could use the Edison quote as our motto. It reminds us that we should work hard every day. Some of my friends are intelligent but lazy. They waste their time playing.

While we are young, we should strive to fill our minds with knowledge.

CHAN HUNG-TANG Thanks for your letter, Hung-tang. I'm glad that you brought up the subject of light bulbs as they've been on my mind recently - eco-friendly ones, that is.

All around the world there is talk of turning to energy-efficient light bulbs. Australia and California are even making moves to ban incandescent bulbs.

Traditional light bulbs waste energy in heat dispersed while the light is switched on. The fuel-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs use about 20 per cent of the electricity to produce the same amount of light.

I am going to replace my old bulbs with the new eco-friendly ones - why not join me?
