Global sourcing is key to procurement post

Stick with this Fortune 500 company and your career in procurement is sure to take off. A global leader in self-adhesive materials, office products, labelling systems and specialty chemicals, Avery Dennison serves consumer and industrial markets worldwide.

The company had sales of US$5.6 billion last year, according to its website, and was ranked 412 on the 2006 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations.

With about half of its sales generated outside the US, Avery Dennison is focused on developing international growth opportunities. To cope with this expansion, an efficient assistant procurement manager is sought. He or she will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies to support new product development.

A university graduate in business management or textiles who has at least eight years of relevant experience in multinational companies would enjoy this role.

While developing the sourcing database, the appointee will play a leading role in price negotiation with global suppliers. Working within a tight delivery schedule, the goal will be to maximise the operational profitability. Therefore, someone with good negotiation and interpersonal skills should apply.

Interested applicants should be well-versed in the sourcing of garment accessories, textiles packaging and printing materials, preferably with global sourcing experience. This experience is necessary for regularly evaluating the suppliers' performance and ensuring the global procurement strategies comply with policies and procedures.

A good team player would do best in this role, but he or she must also have the confidence and knowledge to work independently.
