Online forum ponders how city has changed since Brits left

Are you stumped for an answer every time someone overseas asks: 'So, what's changed in Hong Kong since the handover?'Three local literary luminaries have decided to create a forum on the subject with a blog called hongkongchanges.com. Writers (pictured, from left) Nury Vittachi, Xu Xi and Lawrence Gray started the website, and although it won't be officially launched until next week, already there are postings. Comments range from 'the westerners have disappeared' to 'Starbucks arrived and most restaurants no longer dare serve instant coffee'.

It comes under Vittachi's own Mr Jam blog. The social satirist believes there has been much transformation in the city, but it's all under the surface.

'It takes a great deal of sensitivity and self-awareness to understand what has changed, because it is under the skin,' he said. 'In fact, today's Hong Kong is remarkably different from Hong Kong in 1997.' So, feel free to contribute directly to the site, which is free, non-profit and not linked to any business.

But if your comments are particularly mellifluous, Gray might try to get you to join his Hong Kong writer's group.
