One-fifth of prisoners who apply for parole under early release schemes are successful. Since July 1988, the Release Under Supervision Board has considered 1,697 applications and freed 340 prisoners. A spokesman said that of those released, two had their supervision orders revoked and three were issued warning letters for breaching supervision conditions. 'The board is satisfied with the operation of the two early release schemes,' he said.
