The dressing or vanity table plays a vital role in fung shui in the bedroom because the attached mirror can disrupt the sleep of the room's occupant. A dressing table should never be placed at the foot of the bed because the mirror will reflect back onto the occupant while they sleep. It is believed the soul exits the body when we sleep. Having a mirror reflecting your image during the night means the soul becomes confused about which body to enter upon waking, resulting in lethargy and restlessness, even after a long night's sleep.

Similar disruption occurs when the mirror is at the side of the bed, reflecting its occupants' image from there. This may lead to more conflict in a relationship. Placing the mirror so it looks out well above, but still across, the bed does not solve the problem. The best solution is to relocate the dressing table.

This piece of furniture should not be situated opposite the entrance to the bedroom as this will reflect positive chi from your room. Nor should the mirror face the en suite bathroom, as this may allow negative chi from the bathroom and toilet to infiltrate your sleeping area. If the dresser faces another mirror, this may magnify unsettling energy, causing poor sleep.
