On-the-job injuries on the rise

The Hong Kong workplace has become more dangerous as more people are being injured on the job, according to a Labour Department paper. Nearly 47,000 incidents of workplace injury were recorded last year - an increase of 6 per cent over 2005, according to the paper. The injury rate per 1,000 employees rose to 18.4, up 3.3 per cent over 2005. There were 'notable increases' in injuries in the business, transport and sanitary sectors. There were 187 workplace fatalities last year.
