Five bodies have been recovered downstream of Foshan's Jiujiang Bridge, part of which collapsed last week when it was hit by a sand barge. Two were not related to the collapse and police were trying to identify the others, Nanhai district spokesman Mai Shaoqiang said.

At least nine people, including two bridge workmen, plunged into Guangdong's West River, or Xijiang, following the collapse on Friday. Repairs to the structure will take at least six months, authorities said.
