The Heart of Everything by Within Temptation

If you are in the mood for something dark and dramatic, Within Temptation might fit the bill. The cover art of their four albums gives you a hint of what to expect - pale-skinned girls with black, flowing locks in spooky-looking rooms swirling with potent gothic symbols like doves, angel wings and medieval wooden thrones. Think of Evanescence with the flair of The Phantom of the Opera. Founded by guitarist Robert Westerholt and vocalist Sharon den Adel, who are partners on and off the stage, the band is one of the Netherlands' most popular acts ever. The Heart of Everything was released last month, and in its first three weeks it sold almost 100,000 copies worldwide. What Have You Done is the first single from the album. Fans were allowed to participate in the making of the video, but the band were disappointed with the result and a new video was made. There is little to say about the rest of the songs as they all sound the same. Den Adel's vocals are an intense wail over a repetitive goth-metal blend of electronic beats and a hammering of nu metal rap. There's nothing new here, but it won't disappoint if this is the sound you are after.
