Mercedes-Benz is part of German manufacturer Daimler AG, and the brand is used for luxury automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks. The name first appeared in 1926 under Daimler-Benz but traces its origins to Daimler's 1901 Mercedes and to Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, widely regarded as the first automobile.

What drives it? A 388-horsepower, 5461cc, V8 engine with a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox and Airmatic suspension on 20-inch wheels.


How fast is it? Hits 100km/h in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 240km/h. You get 530Nm of torque at 2,800-4,800rpm.


How safe is it? Hydraulic braking system, ventilated front discs, ABS with brake assist electronic traction system for all-wheel drive; bi-xenon headlamps with active light system; downhill speed regulation; electronic stability program; Pre-Safe; front air bags for driver and front passenger; front and rear sidebags; windowbags for all seat rows.


How thirsty is it? The dealers says it drinks 13.9 litres per 100km in a combined town and country run on a 100-litre tank.


Fug factor: Belches 331g of CO2 per km, which is the fug equivalent of 2.6 Smart ForTwos.


Will it fit in my space? 5.088 metres long, 1.92 metres wide and 1.84 metres high, it weighs 2,445kg. Boot capacity is 300-2,300m3.
