Building and sharing the corporate culture

The company has blended the best practices of its international and local operations with the focus on putting the customer first

Corporate culture is something every company should treasure, but it is just as important to ensure that each staff member follows it closely to make the business succeed.

China State Construction International Holdings has formed a unique corporate culture by blending the good practices of its international and local operations.

Truthfulness, unity, perseverance, initiative, self discipline and dedication have become the important mottos of its culture.

With the foundation of its corporate culture and management system, the company also ensures that all business processes, including every single operational procedure, are well planned and assigned with adequate resources.

The company implements its remarkable project management model [5+3] to balance the development of five major areas: project quality, safety, environmental protection, progress and cost.

This comes with the implementation of three assurance systems which cover workflow, process and responsibility at the decision-making, management and operational levels. Following this, contract responsibility, operation responsibility and social responsibility are all integrated and primed to ensure that projects are managed superbly.

'We believe that people are the most important asset,' said Zhou Yong, vice-chairman and chief executive of China State Construction International Holdings.

'We endeavour to provide our staff with a working environment that is both challenging and harmonious.'

The company provides in-house quality training such as the introduction of ISO 9001 quality management system and the company's own requirements on quality control.

Consultancy firms are occasionally appointed to conduct special training on customer services founded on ISO 10002. This involves handling customer complaints, techniques for handling management relations and strengthening knowledge of quality services.

The company has also been pioneering a Quality Service campaign in which a 'customer-first' attitude is imparted to all staff. Emphasis is placed on providing excellent construction and post-handover services which exceed customer expectations in terms of quality and efficiency.

Mr Zhou said the company recognised that a system's effectiveness depended on how it was implemented. To achieve this, it was committed to launching incentives such as awards for outstanding staff to recognise the performance of employees working in Hong Kong and overseas.

Under its customer care strategies, it has conducted customer satisfaction surveys and has used the information to enhance the quality of its service. The company wants to pioneer such surveys in the construction industry.

Since its establishment in 1979, China State Construction International Holdings has participated in more than 670 construction projects. Driven by its core values, the corporation has acquired a reputation in the international market and established itself as a renowned brand.

Thanks to the guidance of more than 20 years of management experience, the company believes its products and services have achieved prominence and are well regarded in the industry.

'Effective business strategies are essential for us to sustain and grow continually,' Mr Zhou said of the keen competition the company faced.

'We focus on the changes of business environment and the climate of the international market and strategically analyse the operational data and evaluate the strategic plan that's been implemented so as to assess our overall performance.'

The company has established strategies in five major fields: building up brand values, excellence in technology and professionalism, cross-boundary business expansion, diversification of business activities, and the advancement of construction technology.

Driven by these strategies, China State Construction International Holdings occupied the largest market share in Hong Kong government and Housing Authority construction projects. But it has also expanded into international markets such as Macau, Dubai and India, with splendid business results.
