Sorry, must dash

Jimmy Lai

For years, in the run-up to July 1, Apple Daily has been exhorting people to join the annual protest march.

So we are wondering whether its owner and Next Media boss Jimmy Lai Chee-ying will march tomorrow.

Here's his answer, in an interview in the Civic Party's current and also final issue of its A45 newspaper (right), which is being shut down for lack of funds.

'Errh... I've got to be in Taiwan on June 30 for an appointment,' said Mr Lai, known to the international media as the most outspoken pro-democracy media baron in Hong Kong.

'I'm still hoping the other party could rearrange the date.

'If not, I probably wouldn't bother rushing back for it.'

Mr Lai is a man who always has his priorities straight - business comes first.
