The Jockey Club has banned future redemptions at the station concourse of Sha Tin racecourse, the club chief said yesterday, after three people were injured on Monday in a stampede among hundreds of race-goers for free souvenirs. Chief executive officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said the decision was made in light of experience and the club's inability to rule out 'unruly crowd behaviour'. Meanwhile, the club decided to add Vengeance Of Rain, crowned Hong Kong Horse of the Year on Monday, to the set of eight mini-figurines of past champions, one of the giveaways responsible for the stampede, to all race-goers as a door gift on the opening day of the next racing season.
