Steps in the right direction
Try these tips from Pure Fitness personal trainer and nutritionist Chrissy Denton to keep motivated:
1 Be interested. You have to enjoy the activities otherwise you'll get bored.
2 Add variety. Mix it up a bit with aerobics, weights or cardio. Include kickboxing or dance classes. Try hiking or exercising outdoors.
3 Try new things. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to try something new. You might surprise yourself at how good you are at a new activity and this can be rewarding.
4 Go with a friend. You can motivate each other. And you won't have an excuse to avoid the workout.
5 Be organised. If you know it's going to be a busy day then get up early. Or if it's a slow day go in your lunch hour.
6 Reward yourself. Have the occasional rest day and treat yourself to a facial instead.
7 Set goals. This is important so you know you can achieve something. Make the goals small and gradual so you don't have unrealistic expectations.
8 Get a trainer. They can be your motivator and can tailor a programme to suit.
9 Wear a pedometer. Everyone should be taking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. A shopping trip around Central for a couple of hours would only count for about 2,000. So get walking - try walking to work and avoid taking taxis. It's better for the environment, too.
10 Eat right. Combine your exercise routine with a healthy eating plan. Just because you're exercising doesn't give you an excuse to start scoffing ice cream or drinking that extra beer.
