Warning over illegal mapping

Local branches of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping have been asked to step up monitoring of illegal surveying carried out by foreigners. The bureau said illegal surveying endangered national security. Last year the bureau detained three Japanese surveyors who carried out illegal mapping in Xinjiang , Shanghai and Jiangxi , it said. Local authorities should be more alert and step up their monitoring, the bureau said. Staff Reporter
