What are you most scared of?

Betrayal. I'm quite paranoid and all the movies and books that I've watched and read usually use this element for the climax, the turning point of the plot, where everything starts going downhill. I hate the idea that someone you know and care about could destroy your faith by turning against you. It's sudden, painful and inevitable.

I'm terribly scared of cockroaches. I know that I'm 500 times their size and could squash them easily, but that doesn't lessen my fear at all. I guess it's their disgusting appearance: brown bodies, translucent wings and twitching antennae. Also, they're dirty pests which are harmful to our health.

Sharks. Every time I go on a junk trip, I try to stay out of the sea as much as possible because the thought of a shark just waiting in the water terrifies me. Sometimes during swimming practice, I think there's a shark behind me which makes me swim a lot faster.

My Taekwondo teacher may look friendly, but under the mask he is a devil. He makes us do painful training and forces me into the splits, knowing that I'm not flexible. Also, he believes in strict discipline so when one of us upsets him, he punishes the whole class!

Ghosts. I believe they exist. That's why I can't sleep if my friends tell me ghost stories. I can't even watch horror films because the scenes stay in my brain even after a few days.

My parents when they are angry. That's one intense room to be in. But these days. I crack jokes to ease the tension between us and it always works.

Sharks and spiders. Mainly spiders though, because I used to live in California, where they have black widows. They are the most poisonous spiders in North America.Joseph Yuen, 16
