Cheats always lose out in the end

I strongly disapprove of some students paying other people to do their work. While others do their work for them, these lazy students play online games or listen to music.

Don't these students realise how lucky they are to have the opportunity to study in a nice, comfortable classroom, without great cost to their parents?

In some poor countries, children have no education at all, or they have to walk miles to get to school.

We are so much better off than these unfortunate young people.

Let's treasure our study opportunities and not waste our time and our parents' money.

CHEUNG HOI-CHING

Thanks for your letter, Hoi-ching. I am shocked to hear about the practice of paying classmates for their homework. I have asked around and understand that it is not an altogether uncommon phenomenon.

Reporter Elaine Yau is researching this topic and will write a story about it in mid-September, when school resumes. If you have information about the subject that you'd like to share with Elaine, e-mail her at [email protected].

In the long run, cheats never win. Those students who paid others to do their homework will find themselves struggling come exam time. The HKCEE results will be announced tomorrow and those with the top scores will be students who laboured through their homework. .
