China's Olympic coach, Ratomir Dujkovic (pictured), has been appointed to a new position overseeing the senior national team, according to the website of the mainland's top sports governing body.

The decision was reached in a meeting yesterday of senior Chinese Football Association in Beijing, according to the State General Sports Administration, the sport's parent body.

The previous coach, Zhu Guanghu, stepped down last Friday, his position having become untenable after China's tame exit from the Asian Cup at the group stage.

The report also expected an additional appointment of a national team acting coach, who would free the Serbian from daily training to maintain his focus on the Olympic campaign. Dujkovic last week rejected the idea of taking over both teams. Wen Jiaqing, the Serbian's manager, declined to comment on the development.
