Glamour victims

CERTAIN honourable members of the Urban Council have accused the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club of leading them by the nose over the opening ceremony for the redeveloped Government Stadium.

That the RHKJC is adept at leading people by the nose I do not doubt. Thousands of punters prove so on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.

But I have little sympathy with the Urban Council either, which amidst soaring public criticisms is not playing the victim. After all, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. If the Urban Council didn't want the glory and the glamour, what could the RHKJC do? By the way, the Government has warned of higher rates in the near future. And as usual, the Urban Council, telling us how poverty-stricken it is, will be demanding a larger share.
