Fancy a Kupper?

He may be best known as a remixer and producer, but Eric Kupper (below) - who plays Armani/Bar this Saturday - has forged an impressive sideline in DJ-ing during the past few years.

Kupper, a multi-instrumentalist who started out in 1986 as a keyboardist and guitarist for the likes of David Morales and Frankie Knuckles, has played on, remixed or produced more than 1,400 tracks, and his list of satisfied customers includes Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Jamiroquai.

After catching the DJ-ing bug, Kupper enjoyed a four-year residency at Hed Kandi at London's Pacha, before embarking on his latest project, Fierce Angels, for which he holds residencies at the Egg in London and the Victor Hotel in Chicago.

Expect deep and funky house music. Support comes from resident DJ Miles Slater, and entry is HK$150 in advance or HK$200 on the door (includes one drink). Inquiries and reservations: 2805 0028

Splash dance

Beer and live music: an unbeatable combo. Pitch the two together on a beach, throw in a few hundred like-minded souls and you've got the makings of some-thing special.

Dutch brewer Heineken is hosting Splash on Yo Yo Island, Lantau, on Saturday, August 25. Scheduled to run for an endurance-testing 16 hours, Splash will feature a raft of local and international bands, DJs and MCs, as well as graffiti art, fashion shows with brands Quiksilver and Roxy, water sports and more.

Tickets cost HK$140, and heinekenhong kong.com is running a competition for 100 free tickets (closing date August 12). Special ferries (HK$40 one way) will operate from Central Pier No9 from noon on August 25, with the final return ferry departing Yo Yo Island at 6am the next morning. Ticketing inquiries: 2808 2318.

Make some noise

For those in the know, White Noise Records in Causeway Bay is the place to go for the kind of eclectic and esoteric sounds not found at HMV - or anywhere else in the city, for that matter.

As well as being a purveyor of the best in underground and off-the-radar discs, White Noise is also striving to help change the image of Hong Kong as a musical backwater, bringing the likes of Yndi Halda and Otomo Yoshihide to town in recent months.

Now, in association with Loudspkr, comes new club night Cataract, which opens at 8pm this Saturday. Promising to play 'the type of music you won't hear in any club, bar or venue in Hong Kong', DJs Kawaki and Elle Est ChiNOISE will be spinning New York no wave, French new wave, electropop, post-punk, psych, prog and new folk.

Entry is free. Epoch Cafe, 12 Wing Fung Street, Star Street Precinct, Wan Chai. Inquiries: 2591 0499.
