Trade the party hats and balloons for brushes, paints, canvas and aprons - it's called 'artjamming,' and it makes for one great, colourful party.

What's it all about?

In a studio at 123 Wellington Street, Central, you and your friends can get in touch with your 'inner artist' while 'jamming' to music from J.Lo to Justin Timberlake. You will have at your disposal sponges, spatulas and brushes of all shapes and sizes, and paints from mattes to metallics.

The best part is you get a free wet-paint box  in which to take home your freshly created masterpieces.

'After the party everybody gets something, and it's something that's meaningful to the party,' said Betty Cheung, creator of the artjamming experience.

Free refreshments are provided to keep the creative juices flowing -  fruit juices and waters, teas and coffees, and those great teen favourites, cold and hot chocolates.   If you get hungry, you can order pizza, or hire a caterer, or bring your own food.

How much is it and do I need to book?

It would be advisable  to book  at least two weeks in advance. Reserving a group session - four to five hours of artjamming for you and your guests - gets you a discount on regular prices, which start at HK$350 (mini canvas) and go up to HK$1,000 (MAX canvas) per person.

A shorter option is the hour-long 'art/flash' party for 15 painters or more, a good choice if you want a quick creative session.

You can   also rent out a whole studio floor and party in high style. But with all that space to yourself, you will need  at least 15 people in your group.  You may bring your own music and paint to your own beat.

The timing and pricing  is based on  canvas size.  The range is anywhere from 2.5 hours for a mini and four hours for an XL, but you  save between 10 to 15 per cent on regular prices.

Yet another choice is the off-site party. The artjamming team organises these at venues all around town, from the Hong Kong Jockey Club to Treasure Island. Expect to pay about 20 per cent more, as there is more transportation and setting-up time involved.

An artjamming membership (HK$180 for six months) is required for any party or group session.

Another option, though higher priced, is booking a bunch of individual sessions at regular prices.
