Feared Barca strike force targets HK combination

Kitchee-Happy Valley face world's best forward line

The world's greatest strike force - Ronaldinho, Henry and Eto'o - is expected to lay siege to Hong Kong Stadium tonight against the might of Happy Valley and Kitchee in the Mission Hills Cup.

The mouth-watering prospect of Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o playing side by side leaves even Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard in gleeful anticipation.

'You have to be excited at this forward line-up,' said Rijkaard as Barca end their Asian Tour and look forward to the start of La Liga in two weeks. 'They are all wonderful players. But besides being wonderful players, they are all wonderful people. I'm sure they will all want to show something special this season.'

The trio are special. In 2005, all three - Ronaldinho, Henry and Eto'o - were voted in the top three of the World Player of the Year awards. The recent acquisition of Henry from Arsenal has given Rijkaard the luxury of having three of the best attacking players in the world in his line-up.

And if he chooses to start all three tonight, as he did on Tuesday against Japanese J-League team Yokohama Marinos, Hong Kong fans - and a combined Happy Valley-Kitchee XI - are in for a night to remember.

But even if they don't fire - Eto'o and Henry have still to score on the Asian leg of the tour, both failing to find the net in Beijing and Yokohama - Hong Kong can look forward to watching Giovanni dos Santos .

Mexican Dos Santos, 18, is being heralded as the new Ronaldinho. And he has lived up to his billing by matching the Brazilian goal for goal - both being tied with four goals apiece in the pre-season games, which included two in Scotland.

'He has his own style and I love to watch him play,' said Ronaldinho when asked if Dos Santos reminded him of himself in his younger days. 'He is still very young, but there is no doubt he will be very good.'

While all eyes have been on new signing Henry and how he fits into the team, Dos Santos has been the man of the moment with Barca. Against Yokohama, he was awarded the most-valuable player prize after scoring the solitary goal, thanks to a superb back heel by Ronaldinho and a slide-rule through ball from Eto'o.

'Giovanni is confirming his progress and quality. He deserves it, he is working hard,' Rijkaard said after the game. The left-footed wonder is playing in the first team for the first time, and it is likely he will become a permanent part of Rijkaard's plans this season.

Barcelona were pipped by arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Primera Liga last season and lost to Liverpool in the first round of the European Champions League.

'Of course, we want to win as many games as possible this season. Our target is to win the Liga and the European Cup,' Rijkaard said.

Ronaldinho added: 'We are very confident we can win trophies this season. Our main target of course is the European Cup.'

In the bigger scheme of things, tonight's game is a mere training run. But as Rijkaard has stressed before, getting it right before the season starts is important.
