An aid helicopter drops supplies to thousands of people left trapped in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, after Tropical Storm Pabuk made landfall over the weekend. At one point, more than 23,000 residents were stranded. Authorities also sent a text message to 2.8 million people after a rumour started that an earthquake would hit the weather-battered area. China News Service reported that at about 4am the rumour began to spread that a severe downpour would 'bring a major earthquake to the Zhanjiang area'. It added: 'This made many storm victims even more frightened.'
