Tax evader to be sentenced today

A former deputy director of the Hong Kong Management Association who admitted evading more than HK$201,000 in taxes will be sentenced today in District Court. Lau Tai-fai, 58, pleaded guilty on July 31 to six charges of tax evasion between 1997 and 2002. A probation report said Lau rendered a service to society by volunteering and a medical report suggested he would benefit from community service.
