Participants in smog workshop favour idea of road pricing

About 60 people, including representatives of transport companies, attended a workshop on road pricing organised by the Council for Sustainable Development yesterday. The workshop was part of a public process to gauge views on issues related to improving roadside air quality. A majority of the participants supported the idea of road pricing in principle. But the taxi industry said it should be exempted because taxi emissions were already clean. Participants also suggested measures to encourage the use of public transport, such as lowering rail fares and providing more park-and-ride car parks.
