Summer is nearly over and it's almost time to head back to school.  Now may be your last chance  to enjoy the summer sun, so why not throw a beach party with plenty of water sports to keep your friends entertained?

Venue

The first thing you have to look for is the right place. There are many beaches in Hong Kong, but a lot of them do not allow  water sports, let alone provide you with the equipment you need.

Even if you do manage to find a water sports centre, it may have nothing more than a stony patch of ground nearby. You really need a sandy beach for  party.

Stanley  is a good option  as you can windsurf, kayak, sunbathe and barbecue there, and one section of the beach is pet friendly.

Activities

Stanley Main Beach Water Sports Centre is located at one end of  Stanley Main Beach. The centre  provides sailing dinghies, windsurfing boards, kayaks and canoes for those with relevant certificates.

If you're not up to renting any sports equipment, you can always bring your own beach ball or surfboard and have fun in the shallow waters.

You could also arrange a game of beach volleyball or a limbo contest.

There is a barbecue site at the far end of Main Beach. Dogs are not allowed  on  Stanley's Main Beach, but you can always take them swimming at the small beach situated on the other side of the water sports centre.

Cost

It costs HK$12/ hour on weekdays and HK$15/ hour on weekends to rent a sailing dinghy;  windsurfing costs HK$10/ hour on weekdays and HK$12/ hour on weekends; and kayaks/ canoes cost HK$8/ hour on weekdays and HK$10/ hour on weekends. Adult prices are double.

Transport

Take bus number 14 from Sai Wan Ho, number 63 or 65 from North Point, number 6, 6x or 260 from Exchange Square, and number 973 from Tsim Sha Tsui (East). Get off at Stanley Market. The  walk to Main Beach takes about five minutes.

Remember to pack your  sunscreen, a hat, flip-flops and sunglasses.
