Jack of all trades tries on new hat with trendy TST eatery

He's been a travel and food writer, TV chef, fashion buyer, design consultant, art director, stylist and interior designer. Now, Walter Kei Hiu-wah has combined all those talents together in a new restaurant called The Myth, due to open in Tsim Sha Tsui next week.

'Everything was supposed to be finished yesterday because I'm leaving on August 21 on another trip,' Kei said. He helped design the interior and the menu and came up with the restaurant's name.

'I was approached by the owner to work on this. He didn't have a specific idea but when we discussed it, I found he wanted to attract young people back to Chinese cuisine, so I proposed something like this.'

The Myth offers modern Chinese flavours without being too fancy or expensive. 'The Chinese name is from The Journey to the West. I aimed for something modern, something like molecular cuisine theory,' Kei explained. 'But it's not fine dining. It's more mass. Inside, we have some oil paintings with The Journey to the West story, but in cartoon form. Like, the pig character has a cowboy hat and gun. It's kind of funky and modern.' The Myth is at 22 Ashley Road.
