Leading politicians, tycoons serve on Ma's funeral committee
The 333-member funeral committee for late DAB chairman Ma Lik will be a veritable who's who of leading politicians and tycoons, including members of Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's cabinet, the party announced last night.
Among the 19 deputy directors of the committee are Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen; the deputy director of the central government's liaison office, Zhou Junming; National People's Congress Standing Committee member Tsang Hin-chi; Executive Councillor Leung Chun-ying; Legislative Council president Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai and tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun. Acting DAB chairman Tam Yiu-chung will serve as director of the committee.
Cabinet members on the committee include Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Stephen Lam Sui-lung; Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma Si-hang; Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing and Secretary for Education Michael Suen Ming-yeung.
Executive councillors include Rafael Hui Si-yan and Andrew Liao Cheung-sing. Sun Hung Kai Properties chairman Walter Kwok Ping-sheung and Cheung Kong Holdings deputy chairman Victor Li Tzar-kuoi are also among the members.
Ma died of colon cancer last week.
The party announced that the funeral committee has decided to establish a national education foundation in Ma's name. Donors can contact the DAB on 2528 0136.
A public memorial service at the Hong Kong Funeral Home will start at 5pm on Thursday, a day before the funeral.
