White boy takes on reggae challenge
Bobby Kray is certainly raising eyebrows in the music world. The 27-year-old up-and-coming reggae star was a school bus driver, an agriculture student and a worker on a remote farm in northern England.
He was recently discovered in London when he burst into song at the famous record shop where he was working.
Kray then created a stir on the reggae scene when he managed to lure reggae legends Dennis Bovell and The Dub Band to produce his debut release.
Tales From a Skinny White Boy kicks off with Main Man, a track with catchy drumbeats and a promising opening. But sadly, the abundance of cheesy and arrogant lyrics such as 'Don't blame me if your girl is watching me' diminish the track's appeal.
But as the disc goes on, you'll discover the magic of Bobby Kray. He has a sweetly soulful voice, which is shown off best on the tracks Kray-Z and Mr Otty.
Most tracks are light with an easy beat. If you're tiring of this year's punk and rock, the album - a delightful mix of reggae, rock and R&B - is certainly a welcome alternative.
But it lacks the oomph to make it a guaranteed classic or instant hit.
