Wan Kin-yee's plan to break her own Hong Kong record and improve her chances for a place in next year's Olympic Games was dashed in the heats of the women's 100m sprint yesterday.

Running in heat six, Wan was drawn in lane seven in the blue riband event and clocked a disappointing 12.12 seconds to fail to advance to the semi-final. The first three from each heat qualified for the semi-final, along with the eight fastest times.
