Slow jams and slam jams - Kobe Bryant and Alicia Keys are dropping into town
with Andrew Sun. Additional reporting by Clara Mak, Kimberly Chou and Phoebe Cheng.
He drops buckets and she drops hits. CitySeen just learned that both Kobe Bryant and Alicia Keys will be coming to town over the next two weeks.
They will be coming for separate events, though.
Firstly, Nike is bringing the basketball star Bryant here on Friday as part of a promotional tour.
The Los Angeles Laker will be visiting a sports shop named Wankee (yes, for real) in Fa Yuen Street at 4.15pm. Then the All-Star will head to Mong Kok's MacPherson Stadium at about 5pm for more basketball festivities.
For slow jams rather than slam jams, Alicia Keys will be at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental's MO Bar on September 15 to introduce her new CD and perhaps play a few tracks from it.
The Grammy-winning artist's event is by invitation only but the bar is holding nightly lucky draws for folks who spend over HK$800. They will be giving away invitations and CDs.
Continuing on the music tip, trumpeter Roy Hargrove and his quintet are holding a free workshop on Thursday, at 7.30pm at the Cultural Centre. If you dig jazz enough to play it, each musician will lead a separate session on his instrument.
Each group - whether it's trumpet, double bass, alto saxophone, piano or drums - is limited to 10 people so if you like to jam, contact Cindy Ko at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 2268 7251. Hargrove and band are performing on Friday night at the City Hall Theatre.
