Talented footballer hopes to play for Liverpool
Name: Geoff Bland
School: King George V School
Grade: Grade 10
Sport: Football
Achievements: Geoff is a talented young footballer who recently played in the under-15 league in Teresoplis, a city near Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. His team reached the semi-finals before losing 1-3 to their rivals.
Soundbite: 'I was introduced to the sport by my mum. She played a significant role in developing my passion for football,' Geoff, 13, said.
'I started playing football when I was seven after one of my friends asked me to join his team.
'I found it quite easy at the beginning, but as I started to develop my skills, it got much harder.
'I started out as a defender, and later I tried to be a goalkeeper. I was good at it, but my coach knew that I was better as a striker.
'Since then I've been playing as a forward.'
Ambitions: 'I'm hoping that one day I can become a professional footballer and play for Liverpool FC in the English Premier League,' Geoff said.
'If not, I would like to play in the Brazilian league because I already have offers from clubs there, such as Botafogo. I'm hoping to be like my football idol, [Liverpool star] Harry Kewell.'
