Firms use 864,000 trees a year for paper

Hong Kong's companies used 36,000 metric tonnes of copy paper last year, the equivalent of 864,000 trees, a Productivity Council survey reveals. From a random sampling of 221,000 establishments, researchers interviewed 501 office managers by telephone. The study revealed that the average company uses 160kg of copy paper a year, coming from 3.9 trees. The finance/real estate/insurance/business services sector was the biggest culprit, with 18 per cent of total use.
