Financial knowledge is key to this reporter job

If you are an experienced journalist well versed in banking and finance topics, this reporting and commissioning role is just for you.

The South China Morning Post Special Reports section needs a reporter with at least five years of experience writing for English-language publications. The organised and independent incumbent must manage tight deadlines, be able to multitask and be a reliable team worker.

The reporter will be in charge of banking and finance supplements and must have an in-depth understanding of investment, private banking and wealth management.

This position offers more variety though, as other supplements regularly come up, such as education, exhibitions, supply chain and tourism. Candidates should have friendly, patient and courteous personalities, as they will have to foster positive relationships with freelancers and news sources. Excellent communication skills are important.

'Part of the job is to come up with story ideas and story outlines for the publications and commission stories from freelancers. The incumbent must be able to communicate with the freelancers well to get the right kind of article, ensure accuracy and meet deadlines,' said Andrea Zavadszky, editor of Special Reports and Classified Post.

Duties will also include liaising with production staff, commissioning and sourcing photos, and proofreading.
