Top fashion packs the tent at Luxury Week finale
The MasterCard Luxury Week series of fashion shows wrapped over the weekend with a couple of the more prestigious dressmakers packing the tent at Chater Garden. Friday night's Vera Wang show and Saturday's Oscar de la Renta's grand spectacle filled the standing-room areas, a contrast with some of the less famous designers earlier in the week, where entire rows of seats were left empty.
But given that it was events group IMG's first foray with this project, IMG Fashion Asia-Pacific managing director Simon Lock (above) is happy with the result - and he's already booking for next year. 'It's always difficult with a first-time event,' Mr Lock admitted. 'It's difficult for people to see the vision but once they learn what it is, Hong Kong is embracing the concept. People now realise it's the hottest ticket in town. I'm very pleased with the outcome. Clients see how it benefits them. The LCSD (Leisure and Cultural Services Department) was difficult to work with but they too came to understand how it benefits the community. Most difficult was convincing designers to support it, but they have.'
Well, it did happen the same time as New York Fashion Week, so naturally for many designers the priority will always be over there. Still, Mr Lock managed to survive the week without any meltdowns or explosions.
'If I lose my cool, a couple of hundred people get nervous. So, I have to be calm, cool and collected at the top.'
