Council supports 50-cent levy on plastic bags

The Advisory Council on the Environment has backed the HK 50 cents plastic-bag tax. Chairman Lam Kin-che said the tax was an important move in waste reduction and hoped it could be introduced as soon as possible. The government wants the levy to be introduced at the end of next year, with the first phase expected to apply to supermarkets and large chain stores.
