9 guilty over forged brands on canned food

Nine people and four companies were convicted yesterday in the District Court of possessing 140,000 cans of food bearing forged trademarks for sale. The defendants were arrested by customs officers in April last year in raids on wholesale and retail outlets. The court heard that some of the defendants had admitted that they did not check with the trademark owners of the products. Deputy Judge Johnny Chan Jong-herng adjourned the case to September 21 to hear reasons for mitigation.
