Repairs undertaken at indoor games hall
I REFER to the letter headlined, ''Good indoor games hall, but defects need to be rectified'', by Paul Stephenson (South China Morning Post, January 8).
The loose wall tiles in the male changing room were a latent defect inherited when the games hall was built. The building contractor was therefore responsible for its rectification.
There is hot water supply to the showering facilities at the games hall.
However, because of insufficient water pressure, hot water supply is inadequate especially on chilly days.
We are aware of the situation and have initiated action to improve the hot water supply system. Improvement work is expected to be completed within the next couple of months, and, we have already replaced the missing shower heads.
It is a normal procedure for users to put down their names, identity card numbers and signatures whenever they make a booking.
The information is required by the management for audit and control purposes.
The indoor games hall is closed during the non-peak hours from 9 am to 4 pm on every alternate Monday for regular maintenance. This arrangement is considered to cause the least inconvenience to users.
Regarding the maintenance of fitness equipment, a specialised contractor has been employed to carry out monthly safety inspection on the apparatus and to carry out repair works as and when required.
The slightly loose grip padding on the lat pull machine and the electronic rowing machine were repaired on January 10.
I presume that the deltoid press Mr Stephenson referred to was the shoulder press.
In fact, the loose grip on the deltoid press is purposely designed to suit the requirement of the exercise.
Meanwhile, we are in the process of replacing the old electronic exercise bicycle by a more popular new model.
As an interim measure, an additional exercise bicycle has been provided for users.
