Finish homework and go to bed early

Doctors say that we should sleep at least eight hours a day, but many of us ignore this advice.

Some students sleep for only about six hours which is not enough.

Those who lack adequate sleep will find it difficult to concentrate in class. Also, their health will be affected.

Many teenagers complain about the amount of homework they have to do.

But this is not an excuse for sleeping late.

Instead of watching TV, surfing the internet or playing computer games, they should tackle their homework early and try to go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Quality teaching holds the key

Are tutorial centres really effective?

Many students say they take private lessons because they cannot acquire comprehensive knowledge from mainstream schools.

Tutorial centres teach students different kinds of skills and help them to get good grades in examinations.

Teachers in mainstream schools have a lot of administrative work so they cannot fully concentrate on their most important task - teaching.

But students should be careful about the tutorial centres they choose.

Some of them shut down after taking money from their students.

On the other hand, the government should improve the teaching quality in public schools.

Then students don't need to attend tutorial centres.

They can save money and make better use of that time.

Working hard to become a teacher

Many people have dreams, but how many can really achieve them?

My dream is to go to university, become a teacher and lead a comfortable life.

In order to achieve this objective, I must work hard and do well in the HKCEE.

Then I can continue my studies at my present school.

If I get good grades in the A-Levels, I will be able to enter university.

After completing my degree, I hope to teach at my present school.

Later, I will find a good husband and live comfortably.

I really hope that I can make my dream come true, although it won't be easy.

But I must try my best and make it happen.

Be a good sport and you will be healthy

Students should play more sports and spend less time on computer games.

It will make their lives more healthy and meaningful.

Playing computer games is a waste of time and many teenagers ignore their studies to indulge in their favourite hobby.

They should be active rather than spend their free time sitting in front of a computer. A lack of exercise can lead to obesity, while the glare from computer screens can affect their eye-sight.

Playing sports has many advantages. Teenagers will become physically stronger, thus reducing their chances of falling ill. Inactivity can lead to heart disease and other illnesses later in life.

Teenagers should adopt a healthy lifestyle by taking part in sports activities.

They can also make more friends through sports, such as basketball and soccer, and learn to co-operate with others.

Happy family

What is happiness? It is a kind of feeling. Some people will be happy when they are rich, while others will have that same feeling when they do something well.

I am happy when I am with my family. Although they are not very rich, I feel very comfortable around them. We are lucky to have somebody to look after all our needs.

Please treasure your family.

Play it safe

Almost all my friends have portable games, such as Play Station and Nintendo.

And they all have the same problem - once they start playing their games, they won't pay attention to anything else. This is very dangerous, especially when crossing the road.

I believe portable games pose a bigger threat to pedestrians than MP3s.

So please don't play portable games on the street.

E-books the solution

Being students, we don't have a regular income. So our parents pay our school fees and buy our textbooks.

I come from a low-income family and my parents spend a big part of their income on my studies. Buying textbooks is a big challenge for us.

Publishers produce new editions and add useless CD-Roms. This increases the cost of the books.

Besides, it is also a waste of paper as students have to throw away the old books and buy new ones.

I think e-books can solve this problem. I would prefer to use e-books as they are environmentally friendly and help to ease the financial burden on my parents.

Soccer loses sparkle

In the 70s and 80s, football was the most popular sport in Hong Kong, with players showing excellent skill to draw the crowds.

But the sport has been going downhill since and there are a lot less spectators at matches these days. Today's football fans prefer to watch overseas matches on TV.
