Grenville Cross delighted with prosecutions appointment
Director of public prosecutions Grenville Cross was elected a member of the executive committee of the International Association of Prosecutors at its 12th annual conference and general meeting hosted by the Department of Justice's prosecution division yesterday. It was the first time a local prosecutor had been elected to the committee, the association's administrative body. Mr Cross will represent the region of Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia during his three-year term. He described his election as a great honour for the prosecutors of Hong Kong. The prosecutions division joined the association as its 75th organisational member in 2001. The first and only world organisation for prosecutors was established in 1995 at the United Nations offices in Vienna.
Henry Tang declines to speculate on reform conclusions
Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen declined to draw an early conclusion on the findings in the green paper consultation on constitutional development, saying the consultation was continuing and still had three weeks to go. He said two-thirds of the 18 district councils had agreed to adopt universal suffrage for the chief executive and legislature in a gradual and orderly manner He was attending the fourth, and last, district forum - for Hong Kong Island and Islands district at Leighton Hill Community Hall.
