Sick leave discrimination complaints soar
The number of disability discrimination complaints related to sick leave rose 90 per cent in the first eight months this year, the Equal Opportunities Commission said yesterday. Of the 329 disability discrimination complaints lodged, 78 were related to sick leave, up from 41 in the same period last year. The commission received a total of 560 complaints, of which disability discrimination accounted for 59 per cent. Commission chairman Raymond Tang Yee-bong said employers should be more accommodating of employees who fell ill.
