Couple sentenced over fake notes

A couple was sentenced to 18 months in jail yesterday in Eastern Court over the use of fake HK$1,000 banknotes. Liu Tak-po, 33, and his Vietnamese wife Nguyen Thi-hanh, 34, were convicted of conspiring to pass 10 fake banknotes in March. The woman was given a suspended sentence to allow her to take care of their son.

Community service for salesman

A salesman who admitted uploading nude pictures of his former girlfriend on the internet and threatening to post a sex video clip was sentenced yesterday to community service. Lee Wing-fung, 29, was spared a prison term by Tsuen Wan Court because of his remorse and guilty plea.

Elderly widow found on hillside

An 81-year-old widow was found on a hillside in Sha Tin after a search by police. Lau Yee-mui, who had been missing for about 30 hours, suffered injuries to her head and arms apparently in a fall from a path near the Home of Loving Kindness in Tung Lo Wan Hill Road. Ms Lau had been reported missing at about 9am on Sunday.

Lucky escape as tree falls on cab

A taxi driver and his passenger had a narrow escape when a 10-metre-tall tree collapsed onto a cab at the junction of Begonia Road and Wistaria Road in Kowloon Tong at 8.25am. No one was injured.

Woman shot with air rifle

A 25-year-old man was arrested at his Hip Wo Street unit in Kwun Tong after a woman pedestrian was allegedly shot with an air gun. Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an imitation firearm.

27 hurt as trams crash

Twenty-seven people were injured or taken ill after two trams collided in Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, last night. Some of the injured were taken to Ruttonjee and Queen Mary hospitals, while others were treated at the scene.
