Workers protest on monastery roof

Eight construction workers climbed on the roof of a Buddhist monastery in Lantau yesterday to demand back pay. They were among about 30 workers who were staging a protest at Yin Hin Monastery, in Upper Keung Shan, asking for HK$400,000. The eight climbed on the rooftop after the contractor offered HK$250,000. Officers from the Labour Department mediated and the last two workers came down at 10.15pm after spending 12 hours on the roof.
