ON January 19 you reported that 21 ex-Kowloon Walled City occupants were evicted from the Tung Tau Estate garden area by the court bailiffs. You mentioned that ''a total of $9.7 million had been offered to the group''. This figure was provided to your paper some time ago and was based on the fact that only 10 ex-Kowloon Walled City occupants were camping at the garden area at that time. The total amount of compensation offered to those persons who were cleared on January 18 was just over $19 million.

Only 20 out of the 21 were eligible for compensation. Madam Chan Mui who appeared on your front page had eligibility for neither compensation or rehousing. She was not a genuine resident of the Walled City.
