As casinos sprawl across Macau and entertainment parks scale up, demand for talent has triggered a series of changes at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
John Williams, head of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at APA, said his school had broadened the curriculum to encompass the rapidly expanding entertainment industry, which would include the direction and management of the field.
Changes were also being made to cater for the new senior academic structure that would be implemented in 2009, he added.
A new foundation course has just been launched this current semester and will pave way for undergraduate courses and which will replace a two-year diploma programme.
Next year will see the introduction of a new master's programme.
The school, which has been remodelled in the past three years to move with the times, now consists of three departments: design, entertainment design and technology in addition to arts, events and stage management.
