Six individuals were recognised as Outstanding Young Marketing Professionals in the HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing Excellence.

The winners were Jamie Chan of Energy Source; Wilson Chung of Pacific Century Premium Developments; Joseph Lau of CLP Power Hong Kong; Canny Leung from BMA Marketing & Advertising; Canace Lin of McDonald's; and Balwin Yeung from Hong Thai Travel.

Ms Chan, the director of Energy Source and a certified naturopathic doctor, won for the campaign called Launch of Music Therapy in Hong Kong.

The objective was to establish music therapy in the city as a form of holistic health care through the promotion and sale of medical resonance therapy CDs and by-products such as nutritional supplements and books.

'My mission is to promote people's health holistically in body, mind and spirit. I have a strong passion in helping people, in understanding life and using natural ways by applying the laws of nature,' Ms Chan said. Her challenge was to launch a campaign to raise public awareness of the benefits of music therapy and generate sales, with a marketing budget of less than HK$100,000 and a staff of three. Within three years Energy Source had generated sales of more than HK$4 million by operating from a retail space of 200 sqft.

Ms Chan relied on word of mouth and promotional campaigns with larger corporations to generate publicity. She used her training as a certified naturopathic doctor to offer health care knowledge and training in music therapy through health talks and free seminars to non-profit organisations. Sales always followed, Ms Chan said.

The campaign was launched three years ago and Ms Chan has kept her marketing budget under HK$100,000 in that time. Annual sales jumped by 150 per cent last year, and the company has built up a database of more than 4,000 clients. Ms Chan said the award, recognised 'Energy Source's efforts in promoting music therapy in Hong Kong.'

Wilson Chung, senior marketing manager, Pacific Century Premium Developments 'I am truly honoured to be bestowed with this award and would like to give special thanks for the management team's invaluable guidance and support from my colleagues. It is not just recognition for myself but also for the team. I would like to give special thanks to management for their support. This award will certainly encourage me to continuously search for improvement.'Canny Leung, executive director, BMA Marketing & Advertising 'Special thanks to BMA Marketing & Advertising staff, and South China Athletic Association football team convenor, staff and players.'Canace Lin, assistant marketing manager, McDonald's 'It is truly a blessing and honour to receive this award. I am grateful for the opportunity and guidance given by the management team but, most importantly, I would like to thank the entire Hong Kong McDonald's family and business partners, as this would not be possible without their support.'Balwin Yeung, senior marketing manager, Hong Thai Travel 'I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to Jackie Wong and Susanna Lau of Hong Thai Travel for giving me the professional platform to exercise my marketing talents. I am also very grateful to be recognised by HKMA and TVB as an Outstanding Young Marketing Professional Awardee.
