fool's gold

Yvonne Lai

'Like an addict, all I want is more.' That's the slogan for Ju$t Another Rich Kid - an independent design label and maker of objets d'art 'for the man who has absolutely everything'. If this is a plight you share, then J.A.R.K.'s (in collaboration with designer Tobias Wong) Indulgences series may be ju$t the thing for you.

Created as part of The Black Market art show at New York's Anna Kustera Gallery, the seven (all limited edition) 'indulgences' include gold pills (clear capsules filled with 24-carat gold leaf), swizzle sticks (solid gold 1970s Playboy drink stirrers), dumbbells (a set of two 4.5kg weights dipped in gold) and solid gold representations of, ah-em, 'recreational' paraphernalia. These tongue-in-cheek collectables are part of J.A.R.K.'s critique of fame, celebrity and the commodification of names and brands in the media, and range from US$300 to US$1,000 in price.

Details can be obtained by e-mailing [email protected]. What Hong Kong customs officials will have to say about these little gems remains to be seen.
