Sunlink in six deals

Sunlink International Holdings, the Hong Kong-based car parts maker, said it would make 900 million yuan in the next 12 months from sales of automatic vehicle positioning gadgets. The company said it signed six distribution deals in the mainland for sales of at least 300,000 units in the coming year.

The gadget, known as 'black boxes' under the Kenji brand, will be sold at between 1,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan each. Logistics and bus companies can use it to track data recorded in vehicles for analysis.

Chairman Andy Wong Shu-wing said the company would focus on the high-margin car parts and devices business and aimed to generate half of its revenue from this sector next year from 23 per cent at present. Sunlink set up a joint venture in July to produce the core general packet radio service module which transfers data to the black boxes and can help cut costs by 15 per cent.

Mr Wong said Sunlink was targeting a 15 per cent market share by the end of next year. The 300,000 black boxes account for less than 5 per cent. Sunlink's sales of car parts and devices jumped 842 per cent in the first half to HK$109.79 million.

Net profit for the six months ended June jumped 173 per cent to HK$27.35 million from HK$10.01 million a year ago.
