School bus driver convicted

A school bus driver who ran over a 79-year-old woman, who subsequently died, was convicted of careless driving in Sha Tin Court yesterday. Lee Kwok-wah, 59, was acquitted of the more serious charge of dangerous driving causing death in relation to the November 17 accident in Yi Shing Square, Sha Tin. Magistrate Timothy Casewell said the prosecution could not prove the deceased crossed the road properly, adding that there was a blind spot in Lee's fish-eye lens. But Mr Casewell said Lee should have checked more carefully, looking out for children in particular. Lee's sentencing was adjourned until October 22, pending background and community service reports.
